One of our clients approached us with a unique custom request: build a CNC router with a 40” gantry clearance and a rotary 4th axis for turning out large foam pieces. The client needed to cut low-profile MDF, aluminum, and other materials while maintaining rigidity, a low backlash and tool deflection.
His shop had less than 8’ of clearance, eliminating a traditional CNC router with legs that could be rolled into place. We solved this challenge by forming a total of 80” of Z travel by moving the Z axis 40” above the gantry’s lowest point, creating a full 40” of clearance and one happy client!
A CNC router bed needs at least 20 ft. to process large Alucobond sheets. To solve one client’s problem, we divided the material table into 8 zones and 2 sections to better clamp down material. FGP provided one RB550 three-stage pump for adequate hold-down power on this machine. The operator could easily run his nested file with the simple push of a button!
